State Farm

two different experiences

My husband and I have had State Farm insurance for 20 years - on our home, our cars, and some rental property. To save money, we have high deductibles, so we just pay for little stuff ourselves. In all that time, we\'ve only had two claims - once when a tree fell on a fence at our home, and a few years later when a drunk driver drove his company\'s truck through a fence at a rental property.

With the fence at our home(at the time in San Luis Obispo, CA), State Farm paid the balance of the cost to repair our fence after we paid the deductible, no questions, no problem (it was a big tree and it really demolished the fence).

With the fence at our rental property (different city, different claims adjuster) - all we wanted was to have the insurance company\'s help in going after the truck driver\'s company to get them to pay for fixing the fence. The State Farm claims adjuster in that city (Santa Cruz, CA) was really hard to deal with. They treated us like we were trying to cheat State Farm, wouldn\'t talk to us, wouldn\'t help us. We ended up getting an estimate to fix the fence ourselves and calling the trucking company directly (they were hundreds of miles away and a little hard to find). The truck company was very nice, we sent them the estimate, they sent us a check. So, as it turned out, we actually didn\'t need State Farm\'s help at all. But, if we had, we would have been in a world of hurt.

The bottom line is - from our experience some State Farm claims adjusters are better than others.
