I am currently insured with Progressive but will not renew my policy. I strongly discourage anyone considering Progressive as their future insurance provider, and I never recommend Progressive to anyone I know.
I recently got involved in two accidents (in both cases I was not liable), and the claims representatives for the cases were extremely incompetent in terms of dealing with the claims. I felt totally betrayed by the way they treated me and was very frutrated by how they took care of the claims.
In one of the accidents, the other party accused me of damaging his rear bumper by claiming that I parked my car too closely to his. This alleged "accident" happened when no witness was around. He left a threatening note on my window while I was away from my parked car, saying that he would call police if I didn't contact him immediately. Because I definitely did not park my car to touch his rear bumper in any way, I called Progressive for help. The other pary showed photos of the cars, but the photos didn't even prove whether the cars in the photos were his and mine. It was possible that he himself might have caused the damage and just laid all the blame on me. There was just no way to prove that I was not at fault. Progressive closed the case, concluding that I was not liable for any damage. However, the claims rep told the other party that I was very likely to lose if he brought this case to his own insurance company!!! It was just totally unbelievable that my insurance company, who should be the protector of their clients, said something like that to the other party, especially when it was not even my fault. The result? The other party even more threatend me to pay him (saying that he would bring the case to his insurance company or to a small claims court), so I just gave him cash because I was in the middle of writing my doctoral dissertation and didn't want to waste my precious time on that moron any more.
In another accident, I was rear-ended by an uninsured driver, and my car was sent to a bodyshop to be fixed. Progressive arranged a rental car, and after the repair was done I returned my the rental car to but they said the car was gone. The claims rep kept calling me, asking me same questions over and over. It was something the rep had to talk to the rental office, not to me. It took two months for the rep to close up this very simple accident. Very frustrating.
There have been more frustrating expreiences with their customer services. I never recommend this company to anyone.
