I have been a customer with Nationwide Insurance since I was 18 years old. I am now 42 and about to turn 43 in October.
In July I got married. One of the first things my wife and I did was start shopping for ways to save money. First I cancelled my health insurance and went to her company for coverage. I saved over $100 a month on that change alone. We then called her insurance company and got a quote for combined coverage on both of our Mustangs. By combining our cars we ended up saving over $750 a year in premiums.
To be fair I contacted Nationwide (my company), to get a quote from them as well. After a week I never received a call back from my agent. I called once again and left a message and still did not receive a call. Finally I went to the nationwide website and sent an e-mail for a quote giving them every bit of information they would need including drivers license numbers, social security numbers, vin numbers, everything. A week later and still no response.
Finally last Monday I have waited as long as I could and my wife and I decided to go with her company. I called my agent on Tuesday morning and told them that I wanted to cancel my policy effective 9/28/2006 which was halfway through the policy term. On Saturday I receive a billing notice telling me that I own them additional money on my coverage which was already paid! This morning I called and talked to someone in billing and to make a long story short, I am being penalized for early termination and if I do not pay, I will show a lapse in coverage! On top of that the girl develops an attitude with me. It did not matter to them that I had been a customer for 25 years with no lapse in coverage and timely payments! When I told the girl that I wanted to see in writing in my policy where it states there will be a 25% penalty, she could not provide it!
I am really pissed off with them. I told them I would pay the pissy little $62 dollars but I assured them that their wrong doing to a long time customer would be re-paid with the knowledge that I will share this story with everyone I can so they can thing twice about doing business with this company.
Now the funny part. I log on to the website to pay the bill and it says that my policy is already cancelled and today is the 25th! Wow, wonderful customer service! I suggest you shop elsewhere for your automobile insurance needs.
