Uninsurable because of spouse's driving record
This company will gladly take your money, but they will ditch you at the slightest hint of trouble. Not the kind of company that you want to have your back, which is the whole purpose of any insurance!
I recently received notice that GEICO refuses insure ME because of an issue on my husband's driving record.
My husband was wrongfully charged with a DUI, but all charges were dismissed in court. Once everything was cleared up legally, my husband received notice from GEICO that they were refusing him coverage even though the DUI was wrongfully charged.
Even more frustrating, GEICO's "policy" says that since I am his spouse, I am not eligible for insurance essentially by association of sharing the same last name. My driving record is completely clean.
When I discussed this with a representative, they claimed that almost all insurance company's have the same policy, and I am uninsurable.
I called Progressive.
They not only gave me a better rate, but they didn't punish me for a situation that 1) was resolved and determined illegitimate and 2) had nothing to do with my own driving record.
This situation was easily resolved by getting a new insurance company, but it shouldn't have happened. Save yourself the time (and money!). Pass by GEICO and find another company that values you as a customer.
