Premium Increase
Overall the company is fair, I personally have not had any bad experiences with the customer service department. My complaint is regarding the business practices in these economic times. This July my rates increased by $30 a month, so I sent an inquiry into why the increase occurred given I have been a customer for 2 years, never been late with my payment and haven't had any claims or tickets or any other thing occur that would cause an increase. The response I received is unbelievable: "In December of last year you advised us that you are unemployed. We did not immediately update your policy. We scheduled the update for your 07-16-2010 renewal. We use many factors to determine a premium. Occupation is one of those factors. The increase to your premium reflects the occupation update." I still am in shock. I live in California that has an unemployment rate of 12% and here this company is raising rates for the unemployed! Of course, CA state law requires that you carry auto insurance. This is an increase of $400 a year! Trust me when I say Geico will not receive another dime from me! I would rather take my business elsewhere than to support a company who's business practice is to take advantage of the law.
