Purchased policy with Esurance over phone since they gave lesser quote than GEICO. (Result of Esurance sending junk/spam emails to me). The agent told me nothing about cancellation fees and other charges except premium. He even said there are "no extra charges" if I pay in installments. But later they indicated that $4 they will charge as service fee in each installment. Within few days they sent me a mail "Missing policy info..." about coverage limits with previous insurance company. If can't be provided, they said they may increase the premium. I do not understand why my previous limits should affect my current premium. Next, after 2 weeks, they sent "Purchase Agreement" in email which specifies all kinds of charges including $50 cancellation. If I fail to reply they said they will cancel the policy. I called up customer service and talked to thier supervisor too. Believe me, it is very unsatisfactory response. He says most of the companies including GEICO charge cancellation fee. I confirmed with GEICO thay they won't charge cancellation fee whatsoever. Also, esurance cust svc person said they will not charge cancellation fee if I sold out my car. But they will charge even if I move out of the country. But the momemnt I asked to send me a written email to me mentioning that, he changed his word saying "typically/most of the times" they will "consider" to waive off cancellation charges if I sold out my car and if I have bill of sales. I asked him to send this in email to which he rejected again saying that he "will not give that in writing". When I asked him why didn't the agent tell me at all and why do they ask me to accept the purchase agreement "after I purchase", he says that PA insurance commissioner approved this procedure. Also, he says esurance doesn't take responsibility if their "partner agent" didn't convey purchase agreement to me at the time I purchased. He says that if I buy using their web site, I will get to accept these purchase agreement before proceeding. He says, over the phone it is not required. Also, he says, the fact that I gave my credit card number itself is the acceptance that they can charge me as required. (The agent when I purchased said "I SWARE TO GOD, we use your credit card info only to make sure WE WILL NOT CHANGE YOUR PREMIUM. ESURANCE IS THE ONLY COMPANY THAT DOESN'T CHANGE PREMIUM ONCE PURCHASED".) I am annoyed with all this and it is very clear that they are doing fradulent business. Had I known their cancellation fee etc. I wouldn't have discontinued my previous insurance carrier.
Not for my little money but that they wouldn't do this to other customers, can some one suggest is there a "no cost to me" way of suing them?
