Bought a new car for my teen driver who has a clean record, but my AIG agent, Witt ins. out of Flagstaff quoted me a price of over $600 a month for ins.. This quote was finally given after several days of wait while the new car had to stay put in the driveway because it was not insured. I cancelled my policy with them and went with another company that was much, much less expensive and more coverage, and who enacted the policy immediatly. I was (am still) owed a refund on my AIG policy. First the agent didn't call in the cancellation until approx. two weeks after I cancelled. Next, when I finally did get the refund it came in my deceased husbands name. Since he had been deceased for over two years the bank would not cash the check. I informed my agent upon my husbands death and asked if it would be better to remove him from the policy at that time, but was told it was better not to do that. When I couldn't cash the refund check I was told to send it back to the agent along with a death certificate and a new check would be issued. That was almost two months ago and I have yet to see a dime of my refund. I have called and have been told it was coming, but it has never shown up. Today, after calling and inquiring yet again about the refund I was told I needed to get a power of attorney from my dead husband allowing me to cash the check as they would not issue me a refund in my name. It is obvious that my husband did not pay the ins. bill for which I am due a refund as he had been deceased for over two years when I cancelled the policy. Regardless, AIG refuses to give me a refund check that I can cash. They told me on the phone again today that they would send another refund check, but in my deceased husbands name! Today I again contacted the agent regarding this situation and he hung up on me after claiming I was "raking him over the coals." I called AIG and they were also of no assistance. I have spent $ on phone calls trying to collect this refund. Obviously AIG doesn't intend to refund money owed to me. I am complaining to the BBB and possibly others. Stay away from AIG and stay away from agents who do business with them.
