Warning: AIG insurance is horrible.
hate to admit it, but I got scammed by an insurance agency and want to
warn others.
The company is AIG insurance and you may have gotten junk mail from
them before. If you get any, I advise throwing it away.
Here has been our experience:
We have been with Allstate for years. We were paying $485 every six
months for insurance. I recieved a letter in the mail for a free insurance
quote from AIG. I was quoted a price of $403, a significant savings. I
cancelled our Allstate insurance and promptly signed up for AIG. We set
up direct payment from our credit card. Later we fouond out our credit
car was billed for $568. We called and they said $568 was the correct
amount and we gave them "wrong information". I explained that we gave
the right information, and it was their mistake, not ours. I even
called our sales rep and he agreed we gave him the right information. AIG,
as a " courtesy" reduced our bill to $468, still higher than we were
quoted. I decided to switch back to Allstate. Unfortunately, our rate
with Allstate was low because we had been a customer for so many years.
The new rate was significantly higher, so we decided to stay with AIG.
Another problem we had, even after our bill was reduced to $468, was
that AIG didn't send any proof of insurance to our bank for our car
loan, even after several calls. They said there records still showed we
hadn't paid, even after it was taken out of the credit card!
Interestingly, the teller at the credit union told us she had the exact same
problem with AIG on both accounts.
Our six months is about up and we just received our new bill for
renewal from AIG: $676, way more than we were even paying! No tickets, no
late payments, no claims, no new drivers or vehicles, just a higher rate
(cost of living increase is what they said when I was on the phone).
This time, I switched immediately! We are now with Liberty Mutual for
$484 every six months. I've heard they are good.
Just a warning. If you get anything in the mail from AIG, it is a scam.
Throw it away and please spread the news.
