My vehicle was recently backed into in a parking lot while I was exiting the lot. I was hit between the front and rear right doors, causing almost $4000 in damage. The person who hit me was insured by AIG. I reported the accident to both insurance companies (I have Mercury) because the party who hit me did not want to report the accident.
The AIG customer service representative was very courteous, took down all of the pertinent information, and provided me with an appointment to see their local adjuster in Miami (5 minutes from where I work) the next day. She was even willing to provide me with directions to the adjusters office. After the adjuster viewed the vehicle (still drivable), she came up with an estimate that was within $100 of the dealer's shop estimate. If the adjuster would have already spoken to the driver who hit me to confirm my claim, they would have issued a check right on the spot. Because that was not the case, the adjuster confirmed the details of the accident with their client the next day and I got my check in the mail 3 days later -- a time period of less than 1 week from my initial report of the accident to them.
I am not sure what all these other people are belly-aching about, but AIG treated very well. I have a feeling that sometimes there is more to the story than people are willing to admit or they don't know how to handle such situations properly and with courtesy. My positive experience with them is making me think about using them as my insurance carrier when my policy expires.
