AARP Customer Review

I called The (AARP) Hartford on 10/24/2006 to CANCEL coverage on my motorhome (Coachmen RV) and make a coverage change on one other vehicle (Mazda Miata). The call, as always, was preceded by their statement "this call will be recorded". I had an in-depth discussion as to re-insuring the motorhome and was assured: [1]It will be taken off the policy [2] There will be no problem having it totally uninsured for 6 months [3]The policy would be re-written, coverage reinstated NO PROBLEM when I desired. On 2-17-2006 I received a billing for the forthcoming year showing the motorhome STILL ON THE POLICY. I immediately called Hartford and related the previous conversation on cancellation on which they failed to act (and credit me for unused prepaid premiums). I was told they "must review the phone records to confirm my conversation". As two weeks elapsed, they repeatedly reported "the phone call couldn't be found". I reminded them there was a record and paperwork generated showing the date of the change on the Mazda policy. I was then ultimately told "we located the conversation, and no such cancellation request was made on the motorhome. I was also told the recording would NOT BE MADE AVAILABLE to me.

.

This is a NO WIN situation for me as a long time policy holder. Statements by Hartford-First statement:"No correction can be made as we can't find the phone record". Second statement:"We located the recording and it doesn't confirm your claim of cancellation".

.

I know for an inarguable fact Hartford was instructed to cancel the motorhome, and refund the balance of the premium. I have been with the Hartford for MANY years without one claim. When they stated the conversation couldn't be found, I was told confirmation must be made "because of all the fraudulent activity taking place". Then when the call could no longer be denied,(the existing paperwork and date of the change on my Mazda) they "found the recording", and it revealed no such request was made by me....and.... I can't hear the contents of the recording.

.

This is the first problem I've ever had with the AARP Hartford and this really troubles me. It is my considered opinion Hartford is being less than truthful on this issue.

.

It also troubles me that "fraudulent activity" was mentioned in two or three calls with Hartford. Funny THEY should bring that issue up. A recap:[1]Call? What call? [2]Oh, we DID find it. You're not telling the truth....but by the way, the recording can't be made available to YOU.
