I switched to 21st Century last year because It was the lowest quote of the 5-10 companies I checkede with. Like most companies they took my first payment over the phone and said everything was done... that's when the trouble began. I mailed back the application and forms required and they said they never got them. I receieved 2nd copies and fax them in once, twice and no one could find them (eventually someone called me and found all the copies 6 weeks later - talk about poor service handling - especially when they threaten to cancel your policy or increase your premiums for this). In addition, I paid in full and they managed to charge my credit card twice (and took 6 weeks to get the overpaid difference reversed)!
Whenever I speak to someone in customer service they put me on hold every 2 minutes (and I hold about 5 minutes). There are always questions they can't answer and "the computers are always down". I finished my first six month plan and needless to say I have switched to Esurance since - everything I faxed was received and processed next day, everything is up to date, on the web and easy to understand
Saving a few bucks isn't the only thing - consider Esurance, The Hartford, Travelers before 21st, Geico or Mercury in CA (I constantly hear nightmare stories about poor customer service, confusing billing statements and less than average claims service).
